WATER HYDRAULIC MODELING ENGINEER – PUBLIC WORKS

EMH&T is currently seeking a Water Hydraulic Modeling Engineer to join our Public Works team located in Columbus, OH.

The Water Hydraulic Modeling Engineer will contribute to the modeling, planning, design, and execution of water and wastewater infrastructure projects for both public and private sector clients. Under the direction of a senior hydraulic modeler, the primary responsibility of this role involves preparing feasibility studies, assisting with master planning, field investigation, and performing hydraulic, hydrologic, and process modeling to support infrastructure design and system performance evaluations. Findings will be documented through the preparation of technical reports and documentation for clients and regulatory agencies. Collaboration across multidisciplinary project teams is essential, with active participation in design reviews and coordination meetings. In addition, the position may include developing construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates to implement water and wastewater related improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain hydraulic models for various water and sewer systems.
  • Analyze model results and provide data-driven recommendations.
  • Support project teams with system assessments and design solutions.
  • Assist with field testing of water system components to aid in model development.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for clients.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously related to the distribution and collections systems.
  • Provide support to water operations staff in the day-to-day operations for various clients/communities.

  • Proficient analytical skills with strong expertise in Microsoft Excel for data analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing and organizational abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and the ability to communicate effectively across teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Experience in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and tracking milestones and deliverables.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Environmental engineering or related field.
  • 2–8 years of civil engineering experience, with an emphasis on water and/or wastewater projects preferred.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software, such as EPANET, WaterGEMS, WaterCAD and PCSWMM or similar software platforms.
  • Experience with ArcGIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
