CONSTRUCTION REPRESENTATIVE – COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT

EMH&T is currently looking for a detailed oriented and proactive Construction Representative (CR) to join our team based in Columbus, OH. This position reports to the Design Engineer.

In this role, you will support commercial site development projects through all construction phases, ensuring quality assurance, compliance with contract documents, and adherence to engineering specifications. The CR plays a key role in coordinating with the client, contractors, construction managers, and design professionals to maintain the highest standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Contract Management & Documentation: Organize, track, and maintain all project-related documents including contracts, specifications, amendments, and covenants. Assist with project closeout and archiving, ensuring all required data and reports are submitted to the client.
  • Client Representation: Serve as the client’s representative, coordinating with client, construction managers, contractors, and design professionals. Participate in OAC (Owner-Architect-Contractor) meetings and provide field observations during the construction phase.
  • Quality Assurance & Technical Reviews: Support the Design Engineer in conducting QA/QC reviews of plans and specifications. Perform monthly site reviews and prepare detailed punch lists for project closeout.
  • Submittals & RFI Coordination: Manage the CA/RFI and submittal process, ensuring timely and accurate documentation and review. Monitor progress of construction while collaborating with internal teams and clients to resolve design or construction issues efficiently.
  • Project Coordination: Attend regular project meetings to provide updates on submittals, RFIs, and construction progress. Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with schedule, design intent, and quality standards. Review architectural and engineering drawings for accuracy and constructability based on specifications.
  • Recordkeeping & Final Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all critical project documents, including final delivery of record drawings.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management plus 2-5 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in observing and monitoring Site Civil/Building Trades construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices, QA/QC processes, and contract documentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, Bluebeam PDF Editor, some CAD experience and familiarity with contract language defining scope of work, and terms and conditions is a plus.
  • Ability to travel out of state as needed.
