When members of EMH&T’s Landscape Architecture Division arrived at this year’s Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (OPRA) annual conference in early February, they were surprised and delighted to see an unexpected but friendly face from the office also attending the trade organization’s annual event.
The Transportation Division’s Stacy Troutman was there, with her whole family in-tow, to watch son Owen receive OPRA’s 2019 Outstanding Youth Leadership Award, which is presented to an outstanding leader 12-18 years of age who has enhanced parks and recreation in their community.
Owen was recognized for his 3 v 3 basketball tournament “Buckets for Behren” benefitting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). He partnered with New Albany Parks and Recreation to develop the tournament as a fundraiser for his participation in the LLS Student of the Year campaign. There were 45 teams from New Albany and surrounding areas participating and all money raised through registration and concessions went to LLS through Owen’s Student of the Year campaign.
A junior at New Albany High School, Owen will host the second “Buckets for Behren” this year to continue raising funds for LLS, which he does in honor of his father, Mike, who is a non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor.
There’s an easy way to see how we can help. Let’s talk about it.
