Vine Street Pump Station
As part of a 5-year contract to assist the City of Gallipolis with sanitary sewer design needs, EMH&T received a task to upgrade an existing sanitary pump station on Vine Street. Before proceeding, EMH&T utilized its field investigation services (Infratechnologies) to perform flow monitoring to attain a clear picture of the existing and needed capacity of the pump station and the surrounding system. Flow monitoring revealed that the there was a restriction in the pipe coming into the station; while the capacity of the station was appropriate, the restriction was reducing the amount of flow the station could handle thus causing two sanitary system overflows. The result: proper field investigation allowed EMH&T to reduce the scope of work for the City from a pump station upgrade, to a far less costly replacement of a 20-foot section of pipe that removed the restriction and corrected the overflows.
