Sanitary Sewer Model Calibration

EMH&T worked with the City of Kent to provide the City with a calibrated, hydraulic model of the sanitary sewer system that the City can utilize to understand and evaluate their system as needed. EMH& T reviewed existing information including the existing SWMM model, pipe and manhole data, pump station SCADA data and other pertinent pump station information, flow monitoring data from the City's and Kent State University's flow meters, and rain gage data. Our professionals then developed a Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) for the sanitary sewer system utilizing PCSWMM software and delivered a model compatible with EPA SWMM version 5.0. The model included large diameter sanitary sewers, pump stations and other points of hydraulic interest, such as high points In the sewers where the flow can split In two directions. EMH&T then calibrated the model to existing flow monitoring and SCADA data and the model calibration will also have the ability to be further refined with future flow monitoring efforts. Finally, EMH&T trained City staff to use the calibrated model.
