Goodale Street Parking Garage
To accommodate the Greater Columbus Convention Center’s increased need for parking, the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority (FCCFA) built a new state-of-the-art parking garage, which replaced an existing surface lot. Designed by NBBJ architects and built by Smoot Construction, the visually distinctive structure serves both the Convention Center and the Short North Arts District. The six-deck, cast-in-place structure provides a total of 800 parking spaces.
EMH&T provided professional civil and traffic engineering services on the project, working closely with the architect, the parking garage consultant, the City of Columbus, and FCCFA. EMH&T prepared a construction-level plan for improvements within the Goodale Street right-of-way, including demolition items and improvements to existing adjacent sidewalks in creating the new points of entry/exit to/from the garage. EMH&T also prepared a traffic access study that presented traffic counts, including peak levels, new trips generated by the development, and an assessment of current and potential future roadway configurations to accommodate calculated volumes.
