Downtown Connector Trail
Mount Vernon, OH
EMH&T provided engineering services to restore two steel railroad bridge structures into pedestrian bridges and paths that were within an abandon railroad corridor. Our team also developed a paved trail from South Main Street to the north end of the existing Kokosing Gap Trail. The central pier on one of the abandoned rail bridges had been previously removed to eliminate debris accumulation within the waterway. EMH&T’s bridge engineers developed an efficient solution to strengthen the superstructure of this bridge to carry the proposed design load without replacing the pier. This solution was developed to allow the contractor a means to perform the improvements while staying out of the waterway, eliminating the need for extensive permitting. Design efforts were performed with consideration of the many adjacent trails, providing a pedestrian detour during construction and connectivity in the final configuration.
