Gender Road, Phase 2
Canal Winchester, OH
EMH&T prepared a corridor safety study for SR-674 (Gender Road) between US-33 and Lehman Road in southeastern Franklin County. EMH&T evaluated crash patterns and provided an assessment of corridor and intersection-specific safety problems in the context of access management and impact to adjacent public intersections. In collaboration with City of Columbus, the City of Canal Winchester staff, ODOT, and other project stakeholders, EMH&T identified short, medium and long-term strategies and countermeasures to improve locations with high crash trends. Findings and recommendations of the corridor safety study, as well as economic analysis and cost estimates were summarized in a Safety Study report which served as a basis for an application, and subsequent award of ODOT Highway Safety Program funding.
EMH&T designed improvements included 4,000 feet of pavement widening and resurfacing to provide center turn lanes, traffic signal modifications, street lighting, sidewalks, curb ramps, storm sewer drainage improvements, post-construction storm water BMPs, and minor re-alignment of a US-33 / Gender Road interchange ramp. EMH&T completed the design phase of this $2.8 million construction project in only eight months, by brokering effective communication between the multiple review agencies, private utilities, and other stakeholders. EMH&T also preserved the project schedule and minimized project costs by carefully designing the improvements to fit inside of existing rights-of-way and easements.
