Cleveland Avenue/Schrock Road Improvements
The City of Westerville engaged EMH&T to study longstanding safety and congestion issues at the Cleveland Avenue and Schrock Road intersection. After preparing a safety study and interchange modification study, which recommended countermeasures including over 6,000 feet of roadway improvements, EMH&T recommended additional through lanes and turn lanes, access management, and traffic signal upgrades. A “complete streets” policy was proposed for the project including bike lanes, multi-use-paths, and sidewalk upgrades to provide increased mobility for all users. EMH&T partnered with the City of Westerville to gather support for this multi-jurisdictional project from various stakeholders including ODOT, the City of Columbus, MetroParks, St. Ann’s Hospital, COTA, and MORPC. Based on feedback and support from the various agencies, EMH&T developed a funding strategy for the project including ODOT Safety Funds, MORPC Attributable Funds, and OPWC. Construction will commence in 2016 (Official ODOT name: FRA-710-3.21, PID 94931).
