Port Everglades Intermodal Container Transfer Facility, Florida East Coast Railway
Fort Lauderdale, FL
Florida East Coast Railways (FEC) moved intermodal operations from their existing Andrews Avenue Yard in Fort Lauderdale to a new 42.5 acre site located within Port Everglades, including a 1.3 mile dual lead track, three process tracks, three support tracks, separate automated gates for both domestic and international containers, and a customs clearance area. EMH&T worked closely with the contractor and FEC throughout the design of the project to help the railroad with the site layout, selection of lift equipment, and technology to deliver a design that met their needs, goals, and budget. EMH&T civil and rail engineers provided construction drawings, permit drawings, specifications, and construction oversight. EMH&T worked with such agencies as the City of Hollywood, City of Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Department of Transportation, and Port Everglades to obtain permitting and coordinate of design and construction.
