CSX Carr Siding Track, CSX Transportation, Inc.
Godmanchester, QC, Canada
CSX Transportation, Inc. was required to construct a new siding track as a part of their recently completed intermodal terminal in Valleyfield, QC. Located in the Township of Godmanchester in Quebec, Canada, just north of the United States border, this siding track would allow for existing train traffic to pass the longer 9,000’ trains in order to serve the new terminal. EMH&T was engaged by CSX to draft conceptual track plans as well as perform preliminary and final engineering services for this 3,078 meter (10,100’) long passing siding. The engineering efforts included a review of the existing farm crossings, drainage swales, culverts, and signals. During the final design process, EMH&T coordinated with the environmental consultants to obtain the necessary permits to extend five existing culverts, remove four farm crossings, reconstruct and improve seven farm crossings, construct a new farm crossing including placement of culverts under the crossings to maintain drainage, and to relocate the existing drainage ditch.
