Existing Detention Basins Evaluations (CIP 610-792)
EMH&T worked for the City of Columbus to determine the feasibility of retrofitting 23 existing detention basins throughout the City for the purpose of meeting a higher water quality standard. We developed an evaluation procedure that considers both physical and hydrologic constraints to determine whether a cost-effective solution was available to both enhance water quality and maintain the existing stormwater quantity controls of each basin. For this project, we developed a comprehensive engineering field reconnaissance worksheet to evaluate key features of each basin that will be factored into the decision making process. As part of this study, we calculated potential pollutant load reductions associated with the various water quality retrofit measures. We performed hydrographic surveys at each of the wet detention basins for the purpose of estimating the volume of sediment deposition within those basins.
