Ashmead Drive Green Street Demonstration Project
EMH&T assisted the City of Gahanna in obtaining an Ohio EPA 319(h) grant for a green infrastructure water quality project along Ashmead Drive, and is currently providing the City of Gahanna with engineering and design services for the project. The Ohio EPA’s 319 grant program provides funding to local governments to conduct nonpoint source pollution management projects which are conducive to an adopted watershed management plan. EMH&T assisted the City in identifying this project opportunity based on an on-going initiative to address stream bank erosion along the downstream Souder Creek channel. The green street improvements include approximately 200 feet of roadway with a subsurface infiltration/detention system and replacement of the surface roadway with areas of permeable pavement (brick pavers). These green street improvements will capture stormwater runoff from approximately eight acres of urbanized drainage area, thus reducing peak flows to the nearby Souder Ditch through both detention and infiltration into the surrounding soils.
