EMH&T was actively involved in the CityWay initiative created as a public/private partnership among Buckingham Companies, Eli Lilly and Company, and Indianapolis former mayor Greg Ballard. The mixed-use development in the southeast quadrant of downtown Indianapolis consists of upscale apartments, a hotel, retail areas, restaurants, a YMCA, and parking garages. The intent of this initiative was to draw new business - and population - to this area with hopes it will spur the economy in nearby neighborhoods. Under contract with Buckingham Companies, EMH&T was involved in the project to create grading and utility plans with calculations for drainage and water quality. The site’s hotel included plans for an exterior sunken seating area and courtyard within in a large grassy area that can be utilized for weddings and other outdoor events.
EMH&T’s involvement grew as the project evolved in size and complexity. Our engineers prepared site plans for all of the buildings within this urban development. Because sustainable design is very important to the City of Indianapolis, this project was prepared to incorporate sustainable elements. Our experts also provided assistance with LEED certification. Our engineers continued to work with the clients during construction to incorporate modifications as new ideas and requirements were introduced.
