Utility GIS for Fairfield County
Fairfield County, OH
EMH&T assisted the Fairfield County Utilities Department with the creation of a GIS that would simplify the process of maintaining an updated water and sanitary GIS. After completing a needs assessment, EMH&T developed a pilot or prototype system based on the user comments and our own extensive utility GIS experience. The developed data included detailed graphic and non-graphic information. EMH&T worked in close collaboration with the Utilities Department and the Fairfield County Auditor’s office to ensure the Utility GIS information would fit seamlessly into the parcel GIS under creation.
To provide the most useful, flexible product, EMH&T created both hardcopy atlas maps and a Web GIS interface of the information. For office and field operations, EMH&T has developed the Web GIS with ESRI’s industry-leading technology. This application provides basic search, display and output functions. The Fairfield County Utilities Department has gained a better picture of their utility networks and infrastructure with these digital maps and the project has greatly assisted them in day-to-day operations and planning activities for a service area that is developing and expanding rapidly.
