Glen Echo Bridge, ODOT Scoping Request Form
Influenced by the City Beautiful Movement and constructed in 1921, this closed spandrel, earthen filled concrete arch bridge was destined for either rehabilitation or replacement with the latest inspection report that questioned the integrity of the bridge. Located within a historic park district, EMH&T performed an alternative evaluation report (AER) for ODOT District 6.
Our team was challenged to determine the value of replacement versus rehabilitation for the 59-foot bridge located on US-23 over the Glen Echo Ravine within the City of Columbus, while preserving its historic features as it is eligible for inclusion onto the National Register of Historic Places. EMH&T completed the ODOT Scoping Request Form and participated in public meetings that addressed the rehabilitation measures ultimately selected for the bridge.
