EMH&T’s Brian Neilson New Conservation Leader in Marion County, IN


1/19/2009 - Indianapolis, IN : Brian N. Neilson, senior project manager with EMH&T, was recently selected as a new conservation leader for the Marion County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) Board of Supervisors.

Neilson is a graduate of Humboldt State University with a B.S. in Environmental Resources Engineering. Brian assumes Alan E. Retherford’s former position on the SWCD Board. His appointment will become official at the SWCD Board’s Annual Meeting on Tuesday, February 17th.

Brian is a 23 year veteran of the public works and private development engineering industries. His public background includes simple to complex projects for communities ranging in size from townships to major metropolitan areas. Brian’s private development projects have been as small as 1 acre infill to as large as a 5,000 acre campus and/or mixed land use projects.

Brian has a strong background in engineering design, “Green” infrastructure design and construction, master planning, sanitary and storm sewer design, and private/public education & communications. He is active in the Water Environment Federation, Indiana Water Environment Association (IWEA), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Indiana Association of Floodplain and Stormwater Managers, Hoosier Heartland Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D), the Upper White River Watershed Alliance, and the American Public Works Association.

The SWCD Board and staff happily welcome Brian, his time and many talents, in helping the Board with its challenges. Mark Kautz, Chair of the local district states, “We are very excited about his broad engineering background and expertise that he will add to the Board”. The Marion County SWCD, a subdivision of state government, is primarily funded by the Indianapolis/Marion County government along with some state funds. The SWCD works to promote wise use of the soil and water and related natural resources and is led by a local board, residents of the county, who volunteer their time and energies to assist the SWCD. Brian joins other Board members: Mark Kautz- Chair, Paula Baldwin- Vice Chair, Marvin Brethauer- Treasurer, and J. Dennis Slaughter in helping direct the SWCD’s operations.
